Listed activities triggered by the project include: LISTED ACTIVITY EIA SCREENING FINDING FORESTRY ACTIVITIES (4) The clearance of forest areas, deforestation, aforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorisation in terms of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No. 12 of 2001) or any other law. - Cutting (harvesting) of encroacher tree species. Bush control activities will stay within the boundaries of the farm which will be divided into smaller camps. The total area dedicated to bush thinning activities will cover less than 4500 ha. - The following harvesting methods will be implemented on the FMU: Manual harvesting (axe, spade, panga, saw etc.). 2. Details of the activity(s) covered by the environmental clearance certificate: Title of activity: Bush thinning activities conducted on farm management unit (FMU) Ombujomaere Nord No. 6, located in the Erongo Region of Namibia. Nature of activity: Bush thinning activities on the farm includes the removal of encroacher tree and shrub species, followed by the production of charcoal using the collected biomass. The bush control measures are expected to be of low intensity. Scale and scope of activity: The proposed bush control activities will involve the use of manual harvesting techniques in an area of 5031 ha. However, this area will be divided into smaller camps. The total area dedicated to bush thinning activities will be less than 4500 ha. The impact of bush control measures is expected to be of low impact. Our application for an environmental clearance certificate aligns with the forest and environmental management plan (FEMP) generic template introduced by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism (MEFT) in 2023.
