Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) section 27 the activity described as “energy distribution, transmission and generation” requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) as it is a listed activity. In 2022, NamPower obtained an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the operation and maintenance of operation and maintenance of existing 220kv Walmund – Kuiseb and 132 Kuiseb – Walvis Bay 1 & 2 Transmission lines Including Kuiseb and Walmund Substations and other associated infrastructures in Erongo Region. However, the ECC now requires a renewal to ensure compliance with the Environmental Management Act (Act No. 7 of 2007) and its regulations. This ECC application includes Walvis Bay Substation which was not previously included. NamPower would therefore like to apply for the renewal of this ECC to comply with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
