Caprivi Houseboat Safaris t/a Camp Turaco : Renew of Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) Offers: Chalets, Camping and Camper-boats on the Zambezi River Caprivi Houseboat Safaris t/a Camp Turaco, on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River is located 6km east of Katima Mulilo. Location: GPS 17.49487 Latitude and 24.32391 Longitude Dominant trees which include Water-berry, Marula, Jackal-berry, Terminalia, Mahogany and Raintrees, provide shade for on this “island paradise” for guests and birds alike. A lush green garden welcomes the guests to this unique Safari Camp. The rustic ambience invites guests to relax and feel at home and close to nature. From the deck Zambia can be viewed and sometimes a honking hippo or menacing crocodile floats by. Whistling otters are a really special sight and birders hearts will flutter at the paddling presence of an African Finfoot. Accommodation facilities: Caprivi Houseboat Safaris offers accommodation on the bank of the Zambezi river in the form of chalets, a tented room, a glamping camp and 2 campsites. In addition, a unique experience is offered in the form of Camper-boats which take guests to explore the Zambezi and Chobe river. Caprivi Houseboat Safaris offers different accommodation facilities which include: • 5 rustic chalets letting one feel close to nature with lots of fresh air and an open front bringing it in really close. An open bathroom lets you stare delightfully at a starry sky; • a tented room situated in the garden for a more budget conscious choice; • a glamping camp for travelers who'd like to cater for themselves or join for meals at the dining area; • 2 campsites for campers in a slightly wild setting. Activities include: angling, sunset cruises, birding and camper boat cruises to the Chobe river. Caprivi Houseboat Safaris opened its doors as a hospitality establishment by Curt Segell in 2011. Reference is made to the Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) issued by the then Environmental Commissioner (EC) Mr. T. Nghitila, on 20 November 2018 (find attached). It is to be noted that Mr. Curt Segell is still the owner of Caprivi Houseboats Safaris CC and that during COVID 19, the lodge was kept running during the period of 2020 to 2023 on a bare bones principle until numbers increased. During the past years management embarked on the following activities: • extensive maintenance of the buildings In 2018 Jo Tagg submitted an Environmental Management Plan based on the infrastructure and business operation. It is to be mentioned that no expansion of facilities and activities offered, has taken place since 2017 i.e. the status quo maintained.
