250409005663 - THE APPLICATION TO RENEW THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE FOR THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE EXISTING MARIENTAL – GIBEON ELECTRICAL RETICULATION SYSTEM INCLUDING GIBEON SUBSTATION AND OTHER ASSOCIATED INFRUSTRUCTURES.

Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) section 27 the activity described as “energy distribution, transmission and generation” requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) as it is a listed activity. In 2020 NamPower obtained the Environmental Clearance Certificate for the management and operation of the Mariental – Gibeon transmission line. NamPower would therefore like to apply for the renewal of the ECC for Mariental – Gibeon line to comply with the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. This ECC also includes Gibeon Substation. This ECC application also serve as an amendment to the previous ECC issued to include the Gibeon substation. This reticulation system runs between Mariental substation and Gibeon substation in Hardap Region, supplying electricity to various supply points. This Gibeon Substation covers a footprint of about 288 m². The Mariental – Gibeon reticulation system is 574. 8 km in length. The reticulation system is constructed with wooden pole structures. Figure 1 shows the locality map for the Mariental – Gibeon reticulation system.
