250401005579 - Makalelo Conservation Agriculture project under the support of Community Livelihood Development and Human Wildlife Conflict Mitigation

Subject: Request for Exemption from Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) – Makalelelo Livelihood Project, Ngoma Area, Salambala Conservancy We are writing to formally request an exemption from conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Makelelo Conservation Agriculture Project, located in the Ngoma area of Salambala Conservancy. This project involves irrigation of a 1-hectare plot for conservation agriculture. The site already has an existing borehole that will provide water strictly for human and livestock consumption, as well as irrigation for a 1-hectare conservation agriculture project. The following justifications support our request for exemption: 1. Minimal Environmental Impact – The project will not require any clearing of trees or major land modifications, as it will be implemented within an already established village setting. Sustainable Water Use – The borehole is intended for basic human needs and small-scale agricultural use, aligning with sustainable resource management principles. 2. Community Benefit – The project will improve access to clean water for the community and support local food security through the nutritional garden. 3. Compliance with Existing Regulations – The project will adhere to all relevant national water and environmental regulations, including obtaining necessary water abstraction permits. Given the limited scope and low environmental risk of the project, we kindly request an exemption from the requirement to conduct an EIA. We remain committed to ensuring sustainable implementation and are willing to provide any further information or documentation required.
