250227005449 - POVERTY-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE IN URBAN AREAS OF KARIBIB KFW REFERENCE NUMBER (PROJECT NO./BMZ NO.): 2019 67 462

Development Workshop Namibia (DWN) has selected five infrastructure projects in Karibib. The projects include four sewer projects and one electricity project. By using defined selection criteria and a selection process that included Karibib Town Council. It is suggested that these five projects provide the best option available with the available funds. Usab Extension 6 is DWN Component 1 project area in Karibib. It is a neighborhood with 306 residential plots, of which 60 have been serviced with water and sewer and sold. Due to the hard rock, the construction of services is more expensive than in any other project town of DWN. For this reason, the plots of this project area have been relatively expensive, at NAD 50,000/plot with water and sewer. DWN secured donations from local donors to subsidize plots, which helped to subsidize 60 plots with NAD 20,000 each. Therefore, to date, the 60 plots that have been sold were NAD 30,000/plot. The funds of Component 2 will assist in providing sewer and electricity to all remaining 244 plots in Usab Extension 6. It will allow DWN to sell these remaining plots at NAD 30,000/plot. The income from this sale will pay for access roads, water connections and all professional fees, following procedures stipulated under Component 1. Sewer 1: This will provide access to internal sewer reticulation to the currently existing DWN component 1 project area. The project will benefit DWN project area. Sewer 2: This will provide access to bulk sewer to the currently existing DWN component 1 project area. The project will benefit the whole of Karibib. Sewer 3: The oxidation ponds need urgent rehabilitation. The project will benefit the whole of Karibib. Sewer 4: This will provide access to bulk sewer to DWN component 1 extension. The upgrading of the trunk sewer line will benefit DWN project area and Usab extension 7, 8 and 9. Electricity: This will provide access to bulk electricity to the currently existing DWN component 1 project site. The project will benefit Usab extension 6 and 7.
