Listed activities triggered by the Project include: LISTED ACTIVITY EIA SCREENING FINDING ENERGY GENERATION, TRANSMISSION AND STORAGE ACTIVITIES (1.) The construction of facilities for - (a) The generation of electricity. (The transmission and supply of electricity. • As a backup plan, the Project has silent diesel generators in place to generate power in the event of power failure. • A 33 kV (~11.8 km in length) overhead powerline supplies the processing plant with electricity. WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENTS (8.1) The abstraction of groundwater or surface water for industrial or commercial purposes. (8.6) Construction of industrial and domestic wastewater treatment plants and related pipeline systems. • Approximately 200 cubic metres daily is required for Project operations is abstracted from an existing borehole. • There are septic tanks on-site connected to a French soak-away drain system for wastewster management. WASTE MANAGEMENT, TREATMENT, HANDLING AND DISPOSAL ACTIVITIES (2.2) Any activity entailing a scheduled process referred to in the Atmosphere Pollution Prevention Ordinance, 1976. • The Project generates dust due to the operation of machinery used for transporting biomass and sieving of charcoal. Dust collector and jet cleaning machines are installed to minimise dust emissions. • Minimum smoke emissions form part of the charcoal processing. All gases produced during the carbonisation process are circulated into the system as fuel. • General waste generated during the various phases of the operational process is collected, removed from site for re-use, recycling or final disposal at a permitted landfill facility. HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE TREATMENT, HANDLING AND STORAGE (9.1) The manufacturing, storage, handling or processing of a hazardous substance defined in the Hazardous Substance Ordinance, 1974. • The Proponent installed a 10 000 litres fuel storage tank on-site. Bulk fuel is supplied by Puma.
